What are the main differences between ASME B16.5 and ASME B16.47

ASME B16.5 and ASME B16.47 are two of the common American standards for flanges. However, many people cannot distinguish the two standards, so they often use the two standards incorrectly. This article will make a specific distinction between the two standards.

The main difference is that the flange caliber range included in the respective standards is different.

ASME B16.5 includes the dimensions of NPS1/2 to NPS24 (i.e. 1/2 inch to 24 inch) under pressure class CL150-CL2500;
ASME B16.47 is the standard for large-diameter flanges, including the sizes of NPS26 to NPS60 under pressure class Class75-Class900.
ASME B16.47 is subdivided into two series, namely series A and series B

About the difference between the two series:

ASME B16.47 Series A source is MSS SP-44, and Series B source is API 605.
Series A is large diameter flange, and Series B is pipe flange
A series: large hole bolts, small quantity
B series: small hole bolts, large quantity

The piping size between A series and B series is the same, but the connection size is different, which needs to be selected according to the actual situation.
Generally, series B is used more in pipelines, such as SH3406 and HG20615 in China, which are all from ASME B16.47 B (AP1 605). The selection is mainly based on their own design needs. Without special regulations, small size is generally selected. After all, the cost is relatively low.

According to the standard of ASME B16.47, we found that only two kinds of flanges in flange products are applicable to this standard:  welding neck flange and blind flange.

Here are some pictures to show the ASME B16.47 standard in detail. I believe you can find the correct answer here.

ASME B16.47 B

American standard large flange ASME B16.47 large diameter pipe steel flange standard, American standard flange is widely used in imported equipment or foreign enterprises. Common American standard flange executive standards: ANSIB16.5, ASME B16.47, American standard flange caliber is expressed in inches (e.g. 1 “1-1/2″, 2 “3″, “, 8″, 10,12 “, 1416″, 18 “, 20″ 24 “. 28″. 8, etc.) The American standard flange pressure rating is marked with 6 pressure classes, namely Class 150; Class 300; Clas 600; Clas 900; Class1500; Class 2500 American standard flange is a part connecting pipes and pipes, which is connected to the pipe end. Flange connection or flange joint refers to the detachable connection mechanism which is connected by flange, gasket and bolt as a group of combined sealing structure. The American standard large flange ASME B16.47 large diameter pipe steel flange standard is organized and provided by Ningbo Xinggang Pipeline Equipment Co., Ltd.
