Talking about the heat treatment of elbows after forming

Carbon steel elbows are metal pipe fittings that change the direction of pipes on carbon steel pipes. The materials of elbows are cast iron, stainless steel, alloy steel, malleable cast iron, carbon steel, non-ferrous metals and plastics, etc.; 45° elbow, 90° elbow and 180° elbow Three kinds of elbows are more common, and other abnormal angle elbows such as 60° are also included according to the needs of the project. According to the production process, it can be divided into: welding elbow, stamping elbow, push elbow, casting elbow, etc. We all know that when designing and manufacturing carbon steel elbows, the mechanical properties of carbon steel elbows need to be considered. So, how to improve the hardness of carbon steel elbows? Having said that, we have to talk about the heat treatment process. Let’s learn about the heat treatment of carbon steel elbows.

First of all, why do carbon steel elbows need heat treatment? When it comes to improving the mechanical properties, we all know: as part of the piping system, the hardness of the elbow should not be too high, too high hardness is not conducive to storing deformation energy, and it is easier to break; the plasticity is not too good, with the use of time. With the increase of , the deformation of the elbow will gradually intensify, reducing the stability of the piping system. Heat treatment is a process that exists to obtain sufficient strength, hardness and plastic toughness.

And normalizing can solve this problem very well. Normalizing is a heat treatment method in which the hot-pressed elbow is heated above the critical temperature and then cooled in the air. During this process, the unbalanced martensite structure will gradually transform into a uniform austenite structure. In this process, The culprit of brittleness and hardness – reticulated cementite disappears in large quantities, the coarse grains are refined, the hardness and plasticity are well balanced, and the comprehensive mechanical properties are improved. Therefore, it is more economical to use normalizing instead of quenching for elbows with low requirements.

Well, the above is a brief introduction to the relevant knowledge of carbon steel elbow heat treatment, thank you for reading.
